Subject: AC Servo - Encoder question

Hi folks,

I am going to change from DC servo to AC servo.

Have 3 AC Servo motors 3000rpm with 3000ppr encoders.

Need new drivers but to find 'suitable' AC drivers seems to be a problem.

Easy to find drivers that are optimized for 2500ppr encoders, but is there an issue to use such driver

as I will only connect encoders to Kanalog as I have now with DC servos.

Sales people says that 3000ppr motor does not work with 2500ppr driver.

So what is this, any advise on this matter is very much appreciated.

Cheers

Bengt

Hi Bengt,

If you intend to have the drives handle the brushless motor commutation then they must certainly be matched and compatible. That is entirely dependent on the motors and drives you are considering.   In this case KFLOP/Kanalog will only provide a velocity or torque command to the drive.

Another option is to have KFLOP perform the commutation ether by using SnapAmp (if it meets your motor requirements) or by using two analog channels that allow external sinusoidal with a 3rd party drive.  Such as these AMC type of drives:
